Now everyone I thought knows that baseball players and football players pat each other on the butt after a good play or a good try or to tell someone to keep their head up. So when former NFL football player, Chad Johnson was in court and the Judge asked him if he was satisfied with his attorney and he said, yes. The Judge said, “you should be, he did a great job.” Chad Johnson in response to the Judge’s praise of his attorney, acknowledged how good his lawyer was by patting him on the butt. So why did the Judge find this so offensive that she rejected the plea offer of no jail and sentenced him to thirty days in jail? My former NFL clients always pat me on the butt. It’s what professional athletes do. It’s part of the game. And it’s hard for them to remember not to do it when they’re off the field. And besides, the Judge entrapped him into patting his lawyer’s butt. He said he was satisfied and she wanted more. So he patted him on the butt. It’s not his fault everyone in the court room started laughing. Chad was being serious. A yellow flag for the Judge.
